     It is so difficult for us to change.  Year after year we make resolutions that seem to be lived out only a short  time into the new year.  When we examine our life, or see ourselves in the mirror, we often have an intense desire to be better.  Inherent in every human heart is a desire to be better.  But all to often we either (1) deny the need for change or (2) believe that real change isn't possible.  So we stay stuck in the mud of our life.  Why is that?

For a young child it may by a tattered blanket that mother wishes could at least be left alone long enough to go in the wash. Maybe it is an accepted solemn promise from dad that the storm is over. It may just be a hug to let them know that here you are accepted and secure.

Family values (a morality based on Bible principles) have really taken a beating in the last couple of years. From Dan Quayle/Murphy Brown to the more recent inclination to draw boundaries, not on party lines and political ideals, but on whether or not one supports "Family Values". In the October 10 issue of Forbes Magazine Armstrong Williams writes, "The media are trying to make "family values" into a issue only the so-called religious right can support." Who would have ever thought we would have people in our country, our state, trying to distance themselves from virtue.
